Feds now will help resolve debt collection complaints

Unfair-Debt-CollectionThe  Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced that it is now taking complaints from consumers concerning debt collectors.  This new initiative from the federal government is to help curb some of the abusive tactics of debt collectors in our country.   Now, when the CFPB receives a complaint from a consumer, it will forward it to the collection agency for a response.  The debt collector has 15 days to respond to the CFPB on what action it intends to take.  In addition to this initiative, there are also action letters available for consumers dealing with abusive debt collectors.  The CFPB hopes that the majority of complaints will be resolved within 60 days.
